School song
(Sung to the tune of "marching through Georgia")
Where the great Blue Mountains raise their summits to the sky
Where around the mighty crags the mists go swirling by
Stands the school, the best of all
Our own Katoomba High
This the old school we love so loyally
Chorus:
Hurrah, Hurrah for our Katoomba High
Our mem-or-ies of her will never die
Though life scatters us afar
Our thoughts will always be
Back with the school we love so loyally
Long ago explrers strove to scale this frowning crest
Hard the fight, to reach at last
The rich and golden west.
Still their dauntless courage spurs us on to give our best
For the old school we love so loyally
Chorus
Waterfall and grotto, shadow's glen and ferny glade
Sisters three, Orphan lone, and glittering cascade
Natures glory has enshrined
The friendships we have made
In the old school we love so loyally
Chorus
Classroom calls us all to work
And sport to play the game,
Proud of what our school has done
We're jealous of her fame
Every future will add
New lustre to the name
Of the old school we love so loyally.
'Adopted as the school song on the occasion of the Centenary of Public Education in NSW, 23rd April, 1948.
Words: Mr. R. Caldwell, B.A.'.
The words of the song are to be found in the 1952, 1953 and 1954 Outlook magazine.
Mr Caldwell was a former teacher at KHS .
Eric Young, an alumini of KHS of 1960, identified Mr. Caldwell as Raymond William Caldwell, who obtained a B.A. at Sydney Uni. in 1921.
He was born in 1901, and died on 5th July 1977.
He wasn't listed in the 1952 magazine, so Eric suggests that he must have had a
short stay at KHS.
Eric asked the school if they had any record of the teachers at the school back then, but they have told him no.
